Noah Cyrus has had quite an emotional rollercoaster of a summer, and in a new interview with Cosmopolitan, she talks about her exciting debut EP Good Cry, and her messy public breakup with rapper Lil Xan.

Due to the coinciding timing of the two events, critics were quick to assume that the relationship was a publicity scam--which Lil Xan himself insisted before the youngest Cyrus shut it down. With lyrics like "I still got your shirts stuck in the drawer/Because they smells just like you" sprinkled throughout her new songs, the question also arose as to whether such a downhearted album was about their tumultuous short-lived fling.

Cyrus slammed the rumors to Cosmo. “I don’t even have anything to say about that," she said. "It was perfect timing, that’s for sure. I think a lot of people thought it was on purpose, but it truly was just perfect timing. I was going through a break-up with somebody I was with for two years, and my heart’s still broken over that, and then I let somebody in and got too comfortable too fast, I think, and it all blew up in my face, like break-ups do.”

“I broke up with someone that I’d been with for two years only to open up to somebody new and my heart got destroyed there, too,” she noted of her tattooed Soundcloud star rebound.

On the emotional lyrics of Good Cry, Cyrus said songwriting is like her "diary." "I love writing sad songs,” she explained. “Whenever I go into the studio, I’m like ‘Guys, we’re probably not going to get an uptempo out of this!’”
