Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy' Features in Capital One Commercial During the Emmys: Twitter Reacts
Now that was crazy. The Emmys are done and dusted for another year, and there were more than enough trophies changing hands, talking points and gags to keep viewers engaged.
But one unexpected moment really caught the attention of folks back home. A Capital One commercial aired during the Emmys broadcast which featured Prince's ‘80s classic "Let's Go Crazy". Wait, what...woah?!
During his lifetime, the Purple One was typically reluctant to sync his works in commercial campaigns. Any campaigns. For much of his career, even the Internet was out. Surely the late legend wouldn't have been pumped about an ad for a credit card? Twitter responded accordingly. Check out some of the reaction below.
I am positive #Prince will never allow his music to be played over a commercial let alone a Capital One credit card one. At this point the “family” is simply just selling out for the money. #LetsGoCrazy #CapitolOne #emmys— Preston Lopez (@PrestonLopez) September 18, 2018
Prince sacrilege aside, "Let's Go Crazy" is a terrible message for a credit card commercial.— Chris Steller (@chris_steller) September 18, 2018
To whoever is in charge of Prince’s estate and sold “Let’s Go Crazy” to Capital One: You suck. #Prince— Gail Page (@GailPage28) September 18, 2018
I'm in favor of using Prince music in a Capital One commercial only because it might annoy him so much that he gets right up out of his grave and comes back to life.— Jen Chaney (@chaneyj) September 17, 2018
