'Finest Hour' Writer ABIR Signs to Atlantic, Releases Solo Acoustic Version: Exclusive
Rising singer-songwriter ABIR -- the writer and vocalist behind Cash Cash's summer smash "Finest Hour" -- has signed to Atlantic Records, Billboard has learned. The news is marked with the release of the singer's solo acoustic rendition of the single today (Sept. 14).
The Morocco-born, New York-based artist tells Billboard, "I’m so grateful to be at a label that believes in me and is empowering me to do my thing. Atlantic’s roster is full of iconic artists and it’s an honor to be a part of the label’s legacy."
Though ABIR first made a splash in 2016 with a collaboration with Masego and several solo endeavors, it was her feature on the iTunes Dance Songs chart-topping "Finest Hour" that ultimately sealed the deal. Now, with ABIR stepping out as fully-fledged solo act, she is taking the opportunity to re-approach the song and draw on her vocal abilities to showcase her powerful lyricism.
"I originally wrote this record to just piano chords, so I always knew that I wanted to revisit that stripped-down raw emotion at some point," she tells Billboard. "It’s surreal to me that 'Finest Hour' went [to] No. 1 on the dance charts, especially because it’s one of my most personal songs to date. I wrote it just to release and express things I’ve felt before, but it’s been fulfilling to see how my experience and lyrics have helped so many people get through their own tough moments."
ABIR's first original solo single under Atlantic is called "Young and Rude" and drops next week. She teases it as a "super bad ass" tune that allowed her to "explore another side of myself as an artist." The single will be followed by a debut EP that is being prepped for an October release.
