Stephen Colbert has showed he’s both a Lord of The Rings expert and an avid hip-hop fan.

Along with a Rolling Stone profile posted on Thursday (Aug. 30), the magazine also shared a video in which Colbert talks about the correlation between Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambinos’ “Favorite Song” -- from Chance’s 2013 mixtape Acid Rap -- and Lord of The Rings’ “Song of Eärendil".

After getting “Favorite Song” stuck in his head, Colbert realized that the song’s rhyme pattern matched a very familiar tempo used by both Gilbert & Sullivan -- the Victorian theatrical duo that collaborated on a variety of comic operas -- and J.R.R Tolkien’s epic tome.

The Late Show host gets into intricate detail on the history of the rhyme and melody and nerdishly explains how everything is linked together, despite of such distinct backgrounds, showing genuine affection towards the three topics.
