Lovelytheband: Get to Know the 'Broken' Trio

Los Angeles-based alt/pop trio lovelytheband sat down with Billboard to help music fans get to know a bit more about them as part of the “You Should Know” video series, chatting about who their biggest musical influences are, what subject matter their songs are inspired by and more.

Asked which bands and artists have influenced them as musicians the most, vocalist Mitchy Collins tells Billboard that he really appreciates singer-songwriters because lyrics are very important to him. “I grew up on things like Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams and Butch Walker. And Dashboard Confessional really taught me a lot,” he shares.

His bandmate Jordan Greenwald notes that he grew up on Van Halen and Def Leppard, while Sam Price listened to a lot of Linkin Park and Switchfoot.

Speaking of what inspires their songs, Collins states, “The inspiration behind our music is just life…we touch on things that I deal with a lot, like depression and anxiety and general the ups and downs of being a human being. Someone not loving you back that you might be head over heels for, or heartbreak. Stuff that maybe wasn't the best for you growing up, insecurities, the whole thing.”

The band behind the song “Broken” are also asked who would play them in a movie, with Price replying with a laugh that it’s pretty easy for him to answer. “You got two choices,” he says. “You got Jonah Hill, or you got Napoleon Dynamite. Pick your poison.” Greenwald, meanwhile, chooses Matthew McConaughey, while Collins picks Philip Seymour Hoffman.
