U.K. singer and producer Jamie Lidell has teamed up with emerging singer-songwriter Kaya Stewart to form the pop project L.I.Y.A. and debut the video for their first electro-soul-pop track "California."

Lidell, who released his seventh studio album Building a Beginning in 2016, met Stewart when she moved to Nashville last year, and was introduced by Stewart's real estate agent.

"I ended up looking him up," Stewart tells Billboard, "And seeing all the people he'd worked with which were people I loved," including artists like Beck and A-Trak, as well as rapper Mike Floss and East Nashville singer-songwriter Anderson East.

"We ended up writing two songs and then we just kept in touch and we made the whole record," she adds. The LP now includes 16 tracks and is set for release in 2019.

The first single "California" is a homage to Stewart's home state, playing on "the fantasy people have about this dream place," and a past relationship that had a former love interest "move to California to figure out what he was going to do with his life."

The video was filmed in the Caribbean with friends Stewart met during family vacation and was shot in a single take.

"I decided I spend most of my time there and these are all my friends so I might as well just shoot my video here because it feels like the most authentic place to me," Stewart tells Billboard.
