On Thursday (Aug. 23), in anticipation of her just-announced sixth studio album, KT Tunstall released "The River": the first single from the new LP, WAX, set to arrive Oct. 5.

Tunstall is back with the inspirational and emotionally charged song, bringing the same energy and powerful voice that scored her a pair of top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits more than a decade ago: "Black Horse & The Cherry Tree" in 2006 and "Suddenly I See" in 2007. “The River” builds up with rocking, rhythmic guitar textures and a catchy chorus that is signature of her work.

Entirely self/co-written and produced by Nick McCarthy, founding member of fellow Brit band Franz Ferdinand, WAX is the second album in a trilogy that explores themes of body, mind and spirit. Following the success of 2016’s KIN, WAX will focus on the body and our complex relationship with physicality.

As Tunstall herself describes in a press release announcing the project, “It’s a record about human-ness, which we so often just write off as ‘flaws.’ Wax evokes colonies of bees, candlelight, the material that the first long-playing records were made of, but more than that, wax is produced inside your own head.”

KT took it to Twitter to express her excitement for the upcoming LP and the release of new single "The River."

Tunstall says "The River" is about “wanting to escape the madness in the world, bad relationships, and wanting to be washed clean -- emancipation through nature.”

In support of the new album, Tunstall is set to perform three sold-out shows across the U.K. in September, followed by a U.S. tour in October and November. Check the full schedule bellow.
