The Hills are alive: MTV revealed Monday night (Aug. 20) during the 2018 Video Music Awards that the reality show -- which originally ran from 2006 to 2010 on the network -- is coming back.

The first teaser for The Hills: New Beginnings debuted during the awards show, but we got a hint of what was to come during the night's pre-show. A gaggle of the show's castmembers -- including Audrina Patridge,  Spencer and Heidi Pratt (and baby Gunner), and Spencer's sister Stephanie -- hit the red carpet at the pre-show to tease that a "big announcement" was on the way. (Noticeably absent from the festivities? Original star Lauren Conrad and her final-season replacement Kristin Cavallari.)

There's no indication from the teaser what the New Beginnings will entail. Will it follow in the footsteps of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation and pick up where we left off with the original castmembers? Or maybe it will pass the torch to a new cast of LA club kids and aspiring fashionistas?

In the meantime, check out the teaser, which features a cover of Natasha Bedingfield's original "Unwritten" theme song from Boyce Avenue featuring Diamond White:
