Last night (June 26), Rep. Joe Crowley, one of the top democrats in the House of Representatives, lost his New York primary to 28 year-old community organizer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The Bronx-born politician has been advocating for the disposal of ICE, Medicare for all, and gun control, among other things.

"This is the start of a movement. Thank you all," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on June 27.

This win wasn't without praise from her supporters, like actress and activist Susan Sarandon and actress and Governor of New York candidate Cynthia Nixon. The former Ted Kennedy staffer also received congratulations from fellow Democrats, former Presidential candidate Bernie Sander and even from her opponent Rep. Joe Crowley.

Ocasio-Cortez will now head into the general election in New York's 14th district and continue campaigning for her cause.
