Twin Peaks' director David Lynch has penned an open letter on Facebook to Donald Trump after the president tweeted a link to a Breitbart story with a quote from Lynch stating, "Trump Could Go Down as One of the Greatest Presidents."

The quote, taken from an interview Lynch did with The Guardian, “was taken a bit out of context and would need some explaining,” the director claims in the June 26 post.

The full quote from the interview is: “He could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history because he has disrupted the thing so much. No one is able to counter this guy in an intelligent way. Our so-called leaders can’t take the country forward, can’t get anything done. Like children, they are. Trump has shown all this."

In his open letter, Lynch writes that Trump is "causing suffering and division," and that "It’s not too late to turn the ship around. Point our ship toward a bright future for all ... All you need to do is treat all the people as you would like to be treated."
