11 Secret Music Marriages, From Cardi B & Offset to Beyonce & JAY-Z
Secret weddings are no easy feat -- especially for highly monitored celebrities. While some A-listers opt for star-studded blowouts on their big day, others pull off their nuptials far from the pesky gaze of the paparazzi.
After Offset's offhanded comment at the BET Awards led to Cardi's big reveal of their secret wedding on Monday, here's a look back at some of music's biggest stars who kept their big days on the down-low.
Cardi B & Offset
Cardi confessed in a tweet that "one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married.” The rap royalty wed on Sept. 20 in Georgia, before their public engagement took place in October during Power 99’s Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia. Fans were shocked to learn that the Migos rapper and Invasion of Privacy star, who are expecting a daughter in July, were able to keep the wedding a secret for so long. "There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself," Cardi posted. "Getting married was one of those moments!"
Ricky Martin & Jwan Yosef
Martin confirmed his marriage to Yosef in January, after having proposed in 2016. The “Livin' La Vida Loca” singer and conceptual artist are raising twin sons Valentino and Matteo together, who were born via surrogate in 2008. Martin told E! News, "I'm a husband, but we're doing a heavy party in a couple of months, I'll let you know."
RuPaul & Georges LeBar
In March 2017, RuPaul told Hollywood Today Live, “I’ve never said this on television before but we are married,” adding, “We got married on our 23[rd anniversary]. I met him on the dance floor at Limelight in 1994, on his birthday. So we got married on his birthday, the anniversary of when we met, this year.” LeBar is an Australian rancher and works mostly out of Wyoming. Ru added, “We’ll go to Maui, we’ll go to New York. We’ll go to someplace fabulous because Wyoming -- God bless you in Wyoming -- but it’s very boring, and it’s the most isolated place on earth.”
Benji Madden & Cameron Diaz
The actress and Good Charlotte rocker married at their Beverly Hills Home in 2015 after a seven-month whirlwind relationship. Introduced by Nicole Richie, Diaz was instantly hooked. "It was one of those things where everyone tells you, 'You just know when you know.' I was like, 'What does that mean?' Oh, I get it. You just know when you know. Like, you're my husband," Cameron explained to Andy Cohen. Madden posted a photo of the lovebirds on April 15, captioned, "True Love."
Macklemore & Tricia Davis
The "Same Love" rapper and outspoken advocate for LGBTQ rights married Davis in a secret ceremony on June 27, 2015, after "the Supreme Court ruled same sex couples could too," according to Davis' Instagram. The couple have two daughters, Sloane Ava Simone and Colette Koala Haggerty.
Wiz Khalifa & Amber Rose
In 2013, after son Sebastian was born, Wiz announced on Twitter that he and Rose had secretly married but were planning a big wedding bash for later in the year. Following the ceremony, Rose took to Instagram to share some long-awaited wedding photos with fans. They later divorced after 14 months, and Amber confessed on SiriusXM, "I feel like that we just rushed into marriage because we were so deeply in love, and we kind of had a rough patch in our marriage.”
Mandy Moore & Ryan Adams
Adams wed actress/singer Mandy Moore in a private Savannah, Georgia, ceremony in 2009. The pair later divorced in 2016 but appear amicable after Adams tweeted his support for Moore during the season 2 premiere of This Is Us.
Beyoncé & JAY-Z
The power couple of the centurymarried in Jay’s apartment on April 4. 2008. The date, the fourth day of the fourth month, was no coincidence, as Jay and Bey share significance with the number 4 and each have “IV” tattoos on their left ring fingers. Carey Mulligan & Marcus Mumford
The Mumford and Sons frontman and The Great Gatsby star tied the knot in the English countryside in front of Sienna Miller, Colin Firth and Jake Gyllenhaal in 2012. The English-born couple met at a Mumford and Sons concert in 2011, after reportedly having been childhood friends.
Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin
Although these two have since "consciously uncoupled," Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin were married in a secret Santa Barbara ceremony in 2003. Fresh Prince Will Smith married Jada Pinkett in a mansion near her hometown of Baltimore on Dec. 31, 1997.
