Florida Georgia Line Reveal How a Casual Conversation Inspired Their Bebe Rexha Collab 'Meant to Be': Watch

Florida Georgia Line sat down with Billboard to share the story of how their collaboration with Bebe Rexha “Meant to Be” came together as part of the “How It Went Down” video series.

Tyler Hubbard explains that he and bandmate Brian Kelley were out in LA when the song was created. They were at dinner when they received a call from their manager telling them that Rexha was going to come by the studio.

They “didn’t really know what to expect,” he says, adding that they had never met Rexha before. “Apparently she didn’t even know we were writing,” he adds. “She just thought we were hanging out.”

Kelley shares that one of the best pieces of advice they have ever received about songwriting is that there is a song in every conversation. “Meant to Be,” it turns out, was inspired by a conversation Hubbard had previously had with his wife Hayley.

The two, Hubbard says, were on their way back from dinner one night when he was telling his wife that he has no idea what they were going to write or what Rexha would be into. His wife then told him, "Don’t stress about it. If it’s meant to be, it’ll be. So just go in there and have a positive attitude and think creative and you guys are gonna write something great.”

Once Hubbard, Kelley and Rexha got started in the studio, the song was finished within two or three hours. “It was just a special night,” states Hubbard. “Bebe’s a special person and amazing to work with and [it’s] one of those songs that just kind of fell out of the sky and at that point.”

He adds that it has been an “awesome journey” to watch the song’s success and to experience a track from the moment it was created in the studio to now.
