Portlandia, "Let's Give Up!"

For a series that debuted seven years ago with a loving musical send-up of Portland as a refuge from the real world, it makes sense that close to Portlandia's end, we receive another melodic ode to escapism. But considering the world of 2018 is a lot different than 2011 – "dumpster fire" was recently added to Merriam-Webster, which pretty much says it all – Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's latest tune is a decidedly less optimistic one than "Dream of the '90s."

Witness "Let's Give Up!," a synth-pop bop about throwing in the towel on staying informed, making meals, walking the dog, using plates, reading books and doing anything remotely useful. Instead: Tune out, binge TV, eat on paper plates, and wear stained sweaters. It's exactly the kind of tongue-in-cheek-but-too-real humor that made the show a runaway hit for IFC, and one of the many reasons we'll miss it when the series wraps on March 22.

Watch the "Let's Give Up!" premiere below and check out the full episode (the series' penultimate) Thursday, March 15 at 10 p.m. ET on IFC.
