Zayn arrives at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 28, 2018 in New York City.

'This was not a song I intended to put out, but...'

Zayn Malik has been posting brief morsels of new music as fans eagerly await the follow-up to his solo debut, 2016’s Mind of Mine. But thanks to the “unprofessionalism” of an unnamed leaker, he was prompted to put out a new track that he had no intention of releasing.

In a new remix of August Alsina’s “Don’t Matter,” Malik lends his vocals to the track off the R&B singer’s 2018 album, Drugs. After the song made its way to the internet, he took matters into his own hands and released it through his channels after offering an explanation via Twitter:

With a brisk tweet, Malik offered a little background to explain the surprise, along with a free download of the remix and an hint that his new solo material will be available soon enough. He didn't stop there, and posted some new artwork to accompany "Don't Matter."

Alsina was apologetic and thrilled in his reply, stressing his affection for his collaborator while accentuating the positive: "You are my brother, I am yours. I don’t know how this happened but WAY TO MAKE LEMONS INTO LEMONADE. (& a great batch, might I add)."

Though Malik's mysterious Instagram updates have been keeping his fans on their toes, hopefully they'll have more to fill their speakers with in the coming weeks.
