U.S. Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon made headlines yesterday when he offered in a press conference, “I think right now the Olympics are about Olympic competition and the athletes involved. I don't want it to distract from them, and I don't want my Olympic experience to be about Mike Pence.”

But the President’s son, Donald Trump Jr., decided to take Rippon to task via Twitter, saying that he’s the one who made it about Pence.

However, Trump Jr.’s statement about the Vice President is false. Pence tweeted directly at Rippon on Feb. 7, saying not to mention a meeting the VP allegedly attempted to set up with the skater before the games began. Pence denied requesting this meeting last week.

While Rippon himself has yet to respond to Trump Jr.’s tweet, many of his fans flocked to his defense.
