The Tony and Grammy winner says album will have a “Sam Smith/Adele narrative.”
Before Ben Platt bowled over the Grammy Awards with his performance of “Somewhere,” the Tony and Grammy-winner chatted with Billboard about his first Grammy win, how he’s become friends with Broadway legend Patti LuPone, and his upcoming debut album for Atlantic Records.
“The album at Atlantic is definitely pop and it’s all original music that I’m writing and co-writing with some people who I’ve met that I really love very much,” Platt, who ended his run as Evan Hansen in the Broadway phenomenon Dear Evan Hansen in October, told Billboard on this year's Grammy Awards red carpet.
Platt signed with Atlantic last September -- the same label that houses the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack -- a few months after he won the Tony Award for best performance by an a leading actor in a musical for Hansen. On Grammy night this year, he took him his first Grammy for best musical theater album (for Hansen).
