Take the red pill? Or the blue pill? It’s an easy choice if you’re into Maroon 5, whose new album Red Pill Blues dropped overnight.

The pop-rock outfit’s sixth studio set features guests appearances from the likes of SZA (on “What Lovers Do”), Julia Michaels (“Help Me Out”), A$AP Rocky (“Whiskey), LunchMoney Lewis (“Who I Am”), Future (on the track “Cold”) and Kendrick Lamar, who appeared on the lead single, “Don’t Wanna Know” from back in 2016.

It’s the followup to 2014’s V, which peaked out at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

In a recent chat with Billboard, guitarist James Valentine fessed up on the album’s Matrix –referencing title. “We had so many different title ideas that we were kind of going back and forth up until the last minute, then Adam came up with [Red Pill Blues],” he explained. “We thought it was apropos for 2017, because [it] was sort of a rough year. And sort of the word play on the red pill and the blues, because it's like, 2017 is kind of a bummer.”
