The set, titled "All This Sounds Gas" is due Aug. 28 on Matador, which released Pavement's five studio albums as well as frontman Stephen Malkmus' recent self-titled solo debut.
"All This Sounds Gas" was recorded in Berkeley, Oakland, and Stockton, Calif., in the fall of 2000, and features Spiral Stairs on guitar and vocals, along with Jon Erickson and Andrew Borger (who backed up Tom Waits on his 1999 "Mule Variations" album).
The first official Preston School of Industry release will be an EP, "Goodbye to the Edge City," due in June on San Francisco's Amazing Grease record label. The label, set up in 1999 by Kannberg and partner Mike Drake, has also released records by Drake's psychedelic rock combo, Oranger.
Preston School of Industry played a low-key live set as part of the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, last month, as well as a series of dates along the West Coast. The band has also just completed recording a cover version of the track "Axilla" for an upcoming Phish tribute album..
