Plant Plucks Alternative Musicians For Tour
Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has scheduled a handful of European dates this month, to be followed by a brief North American tour in May and June. Plant will be backed on the jaunts by Strange Sensations, a band with an alternative rock pedigree comprised of musicians who have logged time in the Cure, and played with Portishead and former Public Image Ltd. member Jah Wobble.
Strange Sensations features guitarist Porl Johnson, who was a member of the Cure from 1985-1993, until he left that band to join the Jimmy Page/Robert Plant touring lineup. Also in the band is guitarist Justin Adams (Jah Wobble), keyboardist John Baggot (Portishead), drummer Clive Dreamer (Portishead, Roni Size), and bassist Charlie Jones, who toured with Page/Plant, and played on Plant's 1990 album "Manic Nirvana."
The European tour gets underway Sunday (April 22) in Aarhus, Denmark, and wraps April 29 in Stockholm. The North American run begins May 25 in Boston, and will play Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York, Toronto, and Detroit, before coming to a rest June 6 in Chicago. Dates on the West Coast are also expected.
As previously reported, Plant will make a guest appearance on the new album from Afro Celt Sound System, titled "Volume 3: Further In Time." Due June 19 on Peter Gabriel's Real World Records, the set also features a guest turn by Gabriel.
