Hillary Clinton dropped by the Tonight Show on Wednesday night to promote her new books and to offer her thoughts on the current crises facing the nation, including the recent Las Vegas mass shooting and Hurricane Maria's effect on Puerto Rico.

After an interview with host Jimmy Fallon, Clinton was surprised by the show's female writers who came on stage for a special version of the popular "Thank You Notes" segment, dedicated to the former secretary of state. Writers Caroline Eppright, Becky Kraus, Albertina Rizzo, Jo Firestone, and Marina Cockenberg shared their thanks to Clinton during the segment.

Accompanied by the familiar, reflective piano theme that scores Fallon's note-writing, the female scribes penned heartfelt messages to Clinton, who sat beside them, smiling.

"Thank you, Hillary Clinton, for being the first female candidate to run in a presidential election from a major American party," one staffer wrote.

Hillary posed for selfies, gave out hugs, and looked moved by the outpouring of sentiment from the show's writers.

The biggest surprise came at the end, however, when Miley Cyrus, who was in the midst of a week-long residency at The Tonight Show, came on stage to tearfully write a personal thank-you to Clinton. "I got my hug!!!! Hillary Clinton today was one I will never forget ...U are endlessly inspiring , & I hope you know how loved / appreciated," Miley tweeted.

Clinton responded by quoting one of the singer's songs: "As Miley would say, 'We can't stop, and we won't stop.' " Watch the video below.
