Donald Glover Wins Directing, Acting Emmys for 'Atlanta'
One Donald thanked another at the 2017 Emmy Awards when Donald Glover, accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Atlanta, gave yet another 2017 Emmy shout-out to President Trump during Sunday (Sept. 17) night's show.
“I want to thank Trump for making black people No. 1 on the most oppressed list,” Glover said. “He’s the reason I’m probably up here.”
Earlier that evening, Glover won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Taking the stage in a chic purple suit, Glover opened his first acceptance speech with, “First, I want to thank the great algorithm that put us all here.
“This really belongs to Hiro Murai,” Glover said of the director who’s helmed clips for Childish Gambino, Glover’s hip-hop moniker. “He had the eye for the show first, he’s really amazing. Thank you.”
With his win, Glover becomes the first black person to nab an Emmy in the Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series category.
