U2 Share New Song 'The Blackout,' Releasing Lead Single and Album Details Next Week

Last Tuesday, U2 teased new material by sending out mysterious letters to fans announcing the arrival of “The Blackout.” They finally premiered the new song on Facebook today, which is off their upcoming album Song of Experience, serving as a follow up to their 2014 album Songs of Innocence. The album is reportedly coming out on December 1.

The appropriately black-and-white video of the energetic “ The Blackout” was recorded live, and isn't intended as the lead single off the album. The actual single, “You’re The Best Thing About Me”, is coming out next Wednesday (Sept. 6.).

The band shared the video on their Facebook page, writing:

“‘The Blackout’, just for you. From upcoming album Songs of Experience. Tune in August 30th. First single, "You’re The Best Thing About Me" coming Sept. 6th, along with all the album news. #U2TheBlackout#U2SongsofExperience. In the darkness where we learn to see.’”
