Fifth Harmony Talk 'Monumental' VMAs Performance & the Symbolic Booting of a 5th Member

Fifth Harmony had one of the most entertaining moments of this year’s VMAs with an unforgettable performance including rain, synchronized mic drops, and even a guest appearance by Gucci Mane while performing their hit “Down.” But what really has everyone talking from their performance is what happened right before they started singing, when an anonymous fifth member dramatically fell off the stage.

Of course, fans immediately blew up the Internet over the symbolic moment, with many thinking it was some serious shade to former member Camila Cabello. And naturally, upon their post-VMAs visit to Good Morning America Tuesday (Aug. 29), host Lara Spencer had to ask about the impactful part of their performance -- but the girls insinuated that it's more about the future of the band and less about dissing their once-bandmate.

"We get asked all the time if we’re getting a fifth member," Ally Brooke told Spencer, "and we wanted to show the world in an artistic way that, hey, the four of us are Fifth Harmony.”

She added, “We’re stronger and better than we’ve ever been -- and honestly it was such a monumental moment for us. We were at the VMAs! We had rain! We had the splits! We had a mic drop!”

The girls also won an award at Sunday's VMAs, taking home the Moon Person for best pop video for their Gucci collaboration "Down." Relive their full performance below.
