Jazz vocalists Patti LaBelle and Diana Krall will headline the 11th annual Janus Jazz Aspen festival, to be held June 21-24 in Snowmass Village, Colo., near Aspen. LaBelle will anchor the four-day event with a Saturday evening performance, while Krall will preview material from her as-yet-untitled September release on Verve Records.
Other performers on tap for the event include blues artists Johnny Lang and Susan Tedeschi, swing revivalists Squirrel Nut Zippers, country-blues singer/songwriter Delbert McClinton, and Barbaritto Torres and Juan De Marcos Gonzalez, both members of the Buena Vista Social Club. The former will perform with a 15-piece folk and blues influenced band, while Gonzalez will lead the Afro Cuban All-Stars.
The festival is also sponsoring a two week all-scholarship residency program through Aug. 3, featuring a nightly concert series. Among the participants are Henry Butler, Dianne Reeves, Christian McBride with Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck & the Flecktones), and Nneena Freelon. A separate festival, running from Aug. 31-Sept. 3, will sport appearances by Maceo Parker, Angelique Kidjo, Ozomatli, Gipsy Kings, Galactic, and more.
