Guy Ngata Appointed GM of Dubai Arena
Guy Ngata is the new general manager at Dubai Arena.
With his new appointment, announced late Tuesday (Aug. 8) local time, the veteran venues manager returns to the AEG Ogden family, for which he served as GM of the Qudos Bank Arena (then Allphones Arena) in Sydney from 2012 to 2015.
He joins from Eden Park in his hometown of Auckland, New Zealand, where he currently serves as CEO.
"Guy is an outstanding venue manager and well respected throughout the industry globally,” comments Harvey Lister, CEO of AEG Ogden which will operate Dubai Arena on behalf of Dubai-based holding company Meraas. “We are very fortunate to have him return to AEG Ogden to manage what we believe will be the ‘go-to’ venue in the Middle East region for large scale international music concerts, sporting and other entertainment events.”
With Ngata at the helm, Eden Park -- New Zealand’s biggest stadium -- in 2016 recorded its most profitable year outside of a World Cup year and is on target to significantly exceed that result this year, according to a statement.
"I leave Eden Park having achieved some tremendous results there but looking forward to the challenge afforded to me by AEG Ogden to manage this magnificent world-class venue,” he comments in a statement ahead of his arrival at the 20,000-capacity, state-of-the-art venue. “I am really excited about building my executive team and working with Meraas to deliver an innovative, NBA standard arena that will put Dubai on the on the international entertainment touring circuit and make a major contribution to the Emirates continued development as a major tourism destination,” he added.
Prior to his stint at Allphones Arena, Ngata served for two-and-a-half years as GM of the Mercedes-Benz Arena, having presided over the opening of the Chinese venue back in 2011. And before that, he was director of operations and then CEO of Auckland’s Spark Arena (then Vector Arena).
Billboard has recognized the exec with “Power Player” status among the world’s top arena managers.
