"The Who & Special Guests, Live at the Royal Albert Hall" features guest appearances by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, Oasis' Noel Gallagher, Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones, Bryan Adams, violinist Nigel Kennedy, and Paul Weller.
The show -- a benefit for the U.K.'s Teenage Cancer Trust -- took place last Nov. 27, shortly after the close of the Who's U.K. tour. It was aired Dec. 2-3 on pay-per-view via U.K. digital TV broadcaster OnDigital, with proceeds from the broadcast also going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. The double-disc/double-tape set will also include rehearsal footage and other bonus material.
A recording of "Substitute" from the show, with Jones on vocals, appeared on the Edel tribute album "Substitute: The Songs of the Who," released in June. Vedder and Weller also contributed to the set alongside the likes of Sheryl Crow, David Bowie, and Phish.
As previously reported, the Who's Pete Townshend will be honored with the Online Pioneer Award at the 2001 Yahoo! Internet Life Online Music Awards, set for Sept. 20 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. Townshend recently posted two previously unreleased demos of the Who's "Behind Blues Eyes" on his official Web site, which also features a diary, image and audio vaults, and a project history.
