Eric B. & Rakim's 30th Anniversary Concert Film To Be Executive Produced by Russell Simmons: Exclusive

Eric B. and Rakim performed together for the first time in 20 years on July 7, 2017 at New York’s legendary Apollo Theatre, marking the 30th anniversary of “Paid In Full.”

A concert film and documentary featuring iconic hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim is in the works thanks to a collaboration between Russell Simmons’ consumer media brand All Def Digital also with Sessions X, an on demand video streaming app, and the creative media company Talsa Media.

The Eric B. & Rakim reunion concert took place on July 7 at Harlem's legendary Apollo theater on the 30th anniversary of their platinum album Paid in Full. The renowned DJ and MC hadn't performed together in 20 years. The show also featured a number of cameos by luminaries that included: Ice T, Mase, Michael Bivins, Flavor Flav, Fat Joe, EPMDRoxanne Shanté, T La Rock, Maino, Al B. Sure!, Joeski, Lovebug Starski, Slick Rick, Kid Capri, Kool Herc, Rich Boy, Special Ed, Lost Boyz and Peter Gunz among others.

"With [agent] Cara Lewis handling the show, Russell managing the film and all of our friends joining us on our homestage of the Apollo, we really got the Paid in Full Posse back together for an amazing night celebrating the culture of HipHop," Eric B. & Rakim said in a statement.

"I'm thrilled that the world, and a new generation, will have the opportunity to witness the creative spark that Eric B. and Rakim lit in hip hop," stated Simmons, who originally signed the duo and released 1987's Paid in Full and is the film's executive producer. "The duo moved the culture forward, and DJs and MCs to this day stand on their shoulders. I’m honored to work again with these great artists." 

Sessions X shot the concert which will be produced in 4K, HD and virtual reality. President of the company, Josh Killham said in a statement that, "We have new artists and legends in all genres, and with this film we have an anchor in hip hop for our fans."

"When I heard that Live Nation was putting on this show, and it sold out in no time, I knew we needed to document the performance so it could be shared around the world," said Wally Eltawashy, the founder of Talsa Media and co-producer of the project, in a statement.

Sanjay Sharma, CEO of All Def Digital, said in the release how the new project marked "a continued expansion into both music-related programming and premium long-form content." He went to state that All Def's Spotify series "Traffic Jams," their upcoming theatrical documentary Romeo is Bleeding as well as the recently announced documentary series The Definitive History of Hip- Hop all, "owe a debt to Eric B. & Rakim."
