TV Networks To Simulcast Relief Benefit
Uniting musicians, actors, and celebrities, the four biggest television networks will on Friday (Sept. 21) simulcast a special benefit for victims of last week's terrorist attack on the U.S. "America:Uniting musicians, actors, and celebrities, the four biggest television networks will on Friday (Sept. 21) simulcast a special benefit for victims of last week's terrorist attack on the U.S. "America: A Tribute to Heroes" will air at 9 p.m. ET/CT on ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, as well as any other TV or radio network that wants to join.
Musicians already confirmed to participate are Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks, Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Billy Joel, Faith Hill, Alicia Keys, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Will Smith, Stevie Wonder, and Neil Young.
Other celebrities who will take part include Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Ray Romano, Kelsey Grammer, Amy Brenneman, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Cameron Diaz, Robert DeNiro, Clint Eastwood, Calista Flockhart, Dennis Franz, Tom Hanks, Conan O'Brien, Sela Ward, and Robin Williams. Further participants will be added up until showtime.
The four major networks will pay the costs of staging the two-hour event and all of the stars are donating their time. It's believed to be the first time the four major broadcast networks have agreed to air the same program simultaneously.
The networks haven't said whether they will set up their own relief organization for victims of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks or direct viewers to existing groups. Viewers will be informed on how they can donate during the show, organizers said.
