While party-centered hip-hop group Tha Liks was on tour with Snoop Dogg, the trio was mindful of its fans during all of its off-stage antics. In fact, the group spent much of the summer and fall tour capturing behind-the-scenes footage for the upcoming DVD "X.O. The Movie Experience," due Nov. 13 from Southwest Distribution.
"We were fully involved with it from start to finish," group member E-Swift tells Billboard.com. "We are some wild cats, so there's some stunts and some practical jokes, you know. All the stuff you would do around your homeboys."
The 75-minute DVD compiles behind-the-scenes footage ranging from the recording of the Loud/Columbia album "X.O. Experience" to recent live performances. Much of the off-stage filming was shot by E-Swift, including studio scenes of Xzibit and Kurupt making their contributions to the album, and previously unheard freestyles from his Liks cohorts Tash and J-Ro, as well as Defari and Phil Da Agony. One segment even captures E-Swift donning a wig and impersonating guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.
"I throw on the wig and get funky for a minute," says E-Swift of the outfit he was given for the album cover's photo shoot. "It's tight. I got a big picture and I'm going to frame it. They're trying to talk me into wearing the wig again, but I can't be Jimi Hendrix. It was just a one-time thing."
Tha Liks will wrap up Snoop Dogg's Puff, Puff, Pass tour on Saturday (Oct. 20) at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, and then head to Los Angeles to film a video for the Rockwilder-produced "Run Wild," the second single from "X.O. Experience." A director has yet to be picked.
"We're going to keep the video pretty simple," E-Swift says. "We want it to be a wild performance video for this song to capture the feel of the song. We have a lot of crazy ideas, like running with the bulls and stuff, but we're really looking for a tight performance video."
The Liks begin a month-long European tour with Defari on Nov. 1. "X.O. Experience" peaked at No. 47 on The Billboard 200 last July and has sold 98,000 units in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan.
