Former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have reunited in a new group, Zwan. A Corgan spokesperson confirms that the group, augmented by former Chavez frontman Matt Sweeney on guitar and a bassist known only as Skullfisher, will play four California live dates beginning Nov. 16 in Pomona, Calif.
No additional information has surfaced regarding how long the band has been together, how much material it has written, or if further live shows are in the works. Zwan's official Web site lists only the band's personnel and information on the four confirmed shows.
Since the Pumpkins' December 2000 dissolution, Corgan has made few public appearances save for a short run of live dates playing guitar with New Order. In announcing plans for a Smashing Pumpkins CD and video retrospective earlier this year, Virgin said Corgan was "rehearsing and recording with a new band" but provided no further information.
As previously reported, those releases -- the "Rotten Apples" greatest hits album and the video compilation "Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits Video Collection 1991-2000" -- will be released Nov. 20 in the U.S.
Here are Zwan's tour dates:
Nov. 16: Pomona, Calif. (Glass House)
Nov. 18: Santa Ana, Calif. (Galaxy Theatre)
Nov. 20: San Diego (Canes)
Nov. 21: Hollywood, Calif. (Roxy Theatre)
