Brian Wilson performs during Northside Festival at McCarren Park in New York City on June 12, 2016.

Brian Wilson will put Pet Sounds to sleep at the completion of his current world tour, though fans will get more chances to say goodbye.

The Beach Boys legend will extend his Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary World Tour with new dates added for the U.K., Europe and North America, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

The Beach Boys' sonic masterpiece dropped May 16, 1966 and went on to become one of the defining albums of the 1960s. Demand for tickets to this final tour has been exceptional, reps say. So Wilson decided he’d give fans what they want with a commitment for 20 more concerts in North America and another 22 shows across Europe.

“We are blown away by the reception of this tour. It’s unbelievable how many people love this album,” says Wilson in a statement.  “The audiences have been so fantastic and we are honored to play for them.  We never expected this reaction so we will continue to perform this album for people as long as they ask us to.”

The Hall of Famer’s tour continues May 9 at BJCC Concert Hall in Birmingham, AL and will skip across the Atlantic for a run of summer dates, then return for a batch of U.S. fall shows. As it stands, the tour will come to a halt Oct. 14  at Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, CA.

Wilson performed 99 shows around the world last year in celebration of Pet Sounds turning 50. Agency for the Performing Arts (APA) executive vp worldwide music Bruce Solar insists the jaunt, in which Wilson plays the album in its entirety, is “really unprecedented.” He adds, “I can’t think of an album that garners so much respect that fans all over the world a year later are still asking for more shows."  Interest in the shows “hasn’t slowed down,” he explains. “Brian during this time in his life is finding so much joy in these performances. It’s really inspiring.”

As a member of the Beach Boys, Wilson was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and honored with The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. He's a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, and an inductee of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and U.K. Music Hall of Fame.

The tour, booked by Bruce Solar, Andy Somers and Steve Martin from Agency for APA in North America and Neil Warnock from United Talent Agency internationally, kicked off in Auckland, New Zealand back in March 2016.
