Garth Brooks beat out Tim McGraw and George Strait to win the favorite male musical performer award, marking the 12th time he has walked away with the honor.
"We've been fortunate enough to be here before, it never grows old," Brooks said in accepting the award. "This is a special time for us... we've announced our retirement from music, so this is gonna be the last time we get to stay here." Taking a moment to acknowledge the fans in the audience, he added, "They say this comes from you guys, if it's true, I love you to death!"
The favorite female musical performer award went to Faith Hill, while 'N Sync came out on top of the favorite musical group or band trophy.
One of country music's queens was also a winner, although not in a musical category. Reba McEntire took home the award for favorite female performer in a new television series, for her work on the WB sitcom "Reba."
