How 'Moonlight' Score Was Inspired by 'Chopped & Screwed' Hip-Hop: Exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD Extra
In support of the Blu-ray and DVD release of best picture Oscar winner Moonlight, a new exclusive clip delves into the film’s unique and creative soundtrack.
The video features director Barry Jenkins and Grammy-winning composer Nicholas Britell discussing the process behind “chopped and screwed” hip-hop music and how its combination with a classical score created the most fitting sound for the main character and his story.
Moonlight chronicles the life of a young black man on his path to self-discovery, struggling while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. The drama -- in addition to winning best picture, after an initial mix-up that had La La Land as the night's top winner -- won best adapted screenplay, and Mahershala Ali won best supporting actor.
The DVD will also include more in-depth featurettes on the music and locations in the film.
The Blu-ray and DVD are available for purchase Tuesday (Feb. 28).
