Today, Billboard has the exclusive premiere of the full LP, aptly titled DRUG BLVD, and which features cuts from LA beat maker Astronautica, Australia’s Mammals, London's Leo Kalyan, The Netherlands' GOSTO, NY's ACES and more.
"Instead of a compilation, what I planned to create 8 months ago was a roof under which people who believed in 'indefiniteness' could meet under," label founder Kubilay Yigit, 25, tells Billboard. "Compilations, with their natural ability to gather as many people around as possible, are cut out perfectly for forming a structure of collective ideas or values by people all around the world."
The project, mastered by Barry Grint (David Bowie, Radiohead, Prince, Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, Guns N' Roses), allows the genre of dream pop to truly embody its illusory, trance-like qualities, allowing listeners a way to escape from anxiety and crisis into a sea of sunny synths and tranquil voices.
"Whilst shaping the compilation, values were spawned from different people and different minds that complemented one another. This integration which originated from the indefiniteness formed the framework of the album," Vigit adds. "This integration was further enhanced by seeking a certain balance in the track selection process. The motivations of each artist involved in the compilation, when combined with Drug Boulevard’s resolute and stubborn formation, wiped out the importance of cities we all came from. Whether we originated from Istanbul, London or California, by the contributions of people walking on it, a placeless boulevard was established.”
