Jamiroquai Teases a Comeback with 'Automaton': Watch

The Cat in the Hat is plotting a comeback. Jay Kay, the smooth-dancing British funskter whose act Jamiroquai unleashed piles of hits in the 90s and 2000s and won a Grammy before going into a long hibernation, looks set for a return.

Jamiroquai dropped a 22-second teaser under the banner “Automaton Transmission 001,” the first taste of the outfit's anticipated eighth album Automaton

It’s an epic, futuristic clip, spliced with images of soaring landscapes and subterranean tunnels. Jay looks right at home as the Space Cowboy with a glowing headpiece which could be a prop from an unseen Empire of the Sun promo.

The clip carries the prescient message, “Coming to a planet near you.”

Jamiroquai had moderate success in the U.S., landing three albums on the Billboard 200 with a best of No. 28 for 1999’s Synkronized. But its success in the U.K. is out of this world. The group enjoyed four No. 1 albums (1993’s Emergency on Planet Earth, 2001’s A Funk Odyssey, Synkronized, and 2006’s High Times hits compilation) and topped the U.K. singles chart on one occasion, with 1998’s "Deeper Underground." Jamiroquai's seventh and most recent album release, Rock Dust Light Star, had a lukewarm reception on its release in 2010.
