CBS aired the annual Kennedy Center Honors on Tuesday night (Dec. 27), paying tribute to singer/songwriter James Taylor, gospel and soul singer Mavis Staples, rock band the Eagles, Argentine pianist Martha Argerich and actor Al Pacino for their "lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts."

Filmed a few weeks ago, CBS' broadcast featured some stirring musical performances. The Eagles’ segment -- introduced by Ringo Starr -- included Kings of Leon (“Take It Easy”), Vince Gill (“Peaceful Easy Feeling”), Juanes (“Hotel California” with Steve Vai and Steuart Smith), and Bob Seger (“Heartache Tonight.”)

James Taylor's catalog was handled by Darius Rucker (“Sweet Baby James,” “Carolina in My Mind”), Sheryl Crow (“Fire & Rain,” “Your Smiling Face”), Garth Brooks (“Shower the People”) and a group sing-along of “How Sweet It Is.”

Bonnie Raitt and Andra Day paid tribute to Staples with “We Shall Not Be Moved” and “Freedom Highway.” And Elle King performed “Respect Yourself” and “I’ll Take You There.”

Grammy Award-winning pianist Argerich was praised by violinist Itzhak Perlman, who took on Beethoven’s "Sonata for Violin" and "Piano No. 8 in G" with pianist Yefim Bronfman, while pianist Yuja Wang performed "Piazzola Grand Tango."
