George Michael Streams Up 3,000 Percent on Spotify Following Singer's Death

The number of George Michael song streams on Spotify skyrocketed following the English singer’s untimely death on Christmas from heart failure. He was 53.

In the day following the news of Michael’s death, streams of his solo music have seen a 3,158 percent increase globally, according to Spotify. The top five streamed songs from Michael and his former group Wham! are “Last Christmas,” “Careless Whisper,” “Faith,” “Freedom! '90,” and “Wake Me up Before You Go-Go.”

The stream increase was calculated by analyzing streams of Michael’s solo catalog. Streaming data from Monday was then compared with the same time period from the previous day (Dec. 25).
