Weezer Surveys The 'Dusty West'

Modern rock outfit Weezer has confirmed nine dates for its Dusty West '02 tour, with dates currently set to kick off April 23 in Edmonton, Alberta, and run through May 5 in Lincoln, Neb.

Modern rock outfit Weezer has confirmed nine dates for its Dusty West '02 tour, with dates currently set to kick off April 23 in Edmonton, Alberta, and run through May 5 in Lincoln, Neb. As previously reported, eight of the dates (save the May 4 show in Ames, Iowa) will feature support from singer/songwriter Pete Yorn, with another opening act to be announced.

The short jaunt comes in between the group's current slate of European promotional dates and a planned trip to Japan for 11 shows during May.

The tour announcement comes as Weezer's fourth album, "Maladroit," tentatively due April 30 from Geffen, is getting heavy early airplay on radio stations across the country. As previously reported, the group has made a number of the "Maladroit" songs available online and sent radio stations and publications a "preview" disc containing eight new songs. The band has no performance scheduled for the day of the album's release, which will fall between two Montana shows on the tour.
