Sturgill Simpson performs on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Oct. 12, 2016 in New York City.

Grammy nominee Sturgill Simpson will be the first musical guest of 2017 on Saturday Night Live when it returns on Jan. 14, with Felicity Jones as host.

The appearance was confirmed on-air during this weekend's episode -- a moment that the singer-songwriter captured and shared on Instagram. "Heading to SNL," he captioned the clip.

Simpson's A Sailor's Guide to Earth was nominated for an album of the year Grammy, alongside a list of releases from some high-profile names: Adele, Beyonce, Justin Bieber and Drake. The Grammy Awards air about a month after his upcoming SNL slot, on Feb. 12.
