The Roots have jammed with just about everyone on The Tonight Show over the years. But on Wednesday night (Dec. 7) the legendary hip-hop band got to geek out in a whole new way when they played the iconic theme song from Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros." with the game's creator, Shigeru Miyamoto. As host Jimmy Fallon strolled by collecting gold coins from a question mark box, Miyamoto strummed an acoustic guitar while the Roots played the calypso-like 8-bit classic.

It was an extra-special night for gamers, as President of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aimé came by to give the first look at the new mobile game "Super Mario Run," which marks the debut of the company's beloved game on iPhone and iPad. Fallon also gave viewers a sneak peak at the company's new game system, Nintendo Switch (due out in March), which quickly converts from a home gaming system to a hand-held mobile one.
