Emma Stone Hilariously Fails the 'Singing Whisper Challenge' on 'The Tonight Show': Watch

She invents the new Springsteen classic 'Pork in the Desert.'

By all accounts, Emma Stone absolutely nails her singing and dancing duties in the new big-screen musical La La Land. But figuring out what Jimmy Fallon is saying while wearing headphones during the "Whisper Challenge" on Thursday night's (Dec. 1) The Tonight Show? Not so much. She gave it her best, though, as Stone went first in the musical skit, putting on noise-canceling headphone as Fallon quietly crooned the intro to Bruce Springsteen's iconic "Born in the U.S.A."

Smiling, Stone yelled, "whatever you're doing looks inappropriate," as Fallon giggled and she said, "I don't know why you're doing it on the show." The host gave it another shot and Emma got "the ground" part, but somehow the chorus became "just kick it in the ground." It was not going well, so Fallon tried some charades for the phrase "born," which Stone somehow took to mean "pork."

Watch her get it right eventually, but not before rewriting the songs as "Pork in the Desert." Check it out:
