Coldplay has set an Aug. 26 U.K. release date for its highly anticipated sophomore Parlophone/Capitol set, "A Rush of Blood to the Head." The set, due a day later in North America, is led by first single "In My Place." Other confirmed tracks include "Politik," "Clocks," and "The Scientist," according to a source.
The set is the follow-up to 2000's "Parachutes," which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 1.2 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Stateside sales of the album were propelled by the multi-format smash single "Yellow," which dented eight different Billboard singles charts, peaking at No. 6 on the Modern Rock Tracks tally.
In conjunction with previously announced appearances June 22 at the David Bowie-curated Meltdown Festival in London and June 28 at the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival, Coldplay has lined up five additional U.K. dates. Drummer Will Champion recently told BBC Radio 1 that the group hopes to cover a Bowie song at Meltdown, and that its set may feature a surprise guest appearance. Further European and North American dates are in the works.
