Just an Orange County Girl: Gwen Stefani Headlines Final Show at Irvine Meadows
Eve joined Stefani for "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" & "Rich Girl" as the No Doubt frontwoman bid farewell to an O.C. landmark.
After 35 years of hosting music's biggest names, from Michael Jackson to No Doubt, Irvine Meadows finally closed its doors for good on Sunday. For its final show, the venue signed off in perfect Orange County style by bringing out ultimate O.C. girl Gwen Stefani to headline the final show.
"Tonight is the last night we will ever experience this beautiful, amazing place of music together," Stefani said onstage. "I am so honored to be from Orange County -- and I feel like you are actually my homies."
The "Used to Love You" singer even took to Snapchat to show her appreciation for Irvine Meadows, since it only "seems right" to be closing out the venue's final night.
With a set list that featured her solo hits like the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 "Hollaback Girl" and "Wind It Up," fans got to feast on songs from all three of her albums, including her latest release, This Is What the Truth Feels Like. Stefani even included No Doubt hit songs like "Don't Speak," "Underneath It All" and "Hella Good." just to name a few.
Although her No Doubt bandmates didn't make an appearance for the final show, Stefani did take a moment to reflect on the memories they shared together as a band. "I know the first time I ever played here, we were opening for Ziggy Marley -- unbelievable," Stefani recalled. "And Tom Dumont used to work here," she added about the No Doubt guitarist.
Even though No Doubt were absent from the surprise guest lineup, rapper Eve joined Stefani onstage to play her 2001 chart-topping hit "Let Me Blow Ya Mind," which was No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart. She also performed with Stefani on her megahit "Rich Girl."
More often than not, Stefani made the evening an intimate gathering for the few thousand people in attendance. "Tonight is about all of us together, we're celebrating Irvine Meadows -- this is Orange County!" the singer told the crowd.
Aside from her glitz-and-glam wardrobe changes, elaborate stage setup and accessorized backup dancers, Stefani remained the humble Anaheim native that she's always been. She brought her native county the show they deserved with an effortless balance of entertainment and homegrown hospitality.
With a 25-song set list that spanned more than two decades of music, Stefani truly used her Orange County star power to make it a legendary night for fans and for fans of the historic concert venue.
