911 Caller Helps Police Solve Case of Missing Backup Dancer Shirlene Quigley
The caller told police that a woman was wandering in and out of traffic in New York City on Tuesday afternoon, NJ.com reported.
The woman, 32-year-old Shirlene Quigley, was picked up by authorities and admitted to a hospital in New York under a false name she had given.
Recognizing Quigley from a flier seeking her return, the caller followed up by notifying police in the woman's hometown of North Bergen Township of her whereabouts.
North Bergen police then contacted New York City's dispatch center and were able to learn the hospital where Quigley was taken. The dancer's identity was confirmed through a physical description that included several unique tattoos.
"I commend our police department for its swift response and the combination of new technologies and old-fashioned detective work that led them to locate Ms. Quigley safely and help her be reunited with her family," North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco said.
The case might've dead-ended in New York without the caller's help, according to Det. Sgt. David Dowd.
"It's one of those moments when you really feel good as a police officer," Dowd said. "We all have families, and when the story ends well, you really feel good."
