Wale, Vic Mensa, Ani DiFranco Lead Global Citizen's 'Show Up and Vote' Campaign: Exclusive
The pulling power of musicians is at the heart of a new project intended to inspire young people in swing states to get up, get out and cast their votes in the 2016 election.
Wale, Vic Mensa, Ani DiFranco and Talib Kweli will take the stage for Global Citizen’s “Show Up and Vote” campaign, Billboard can reveal.
Justine Skye and Madame Gandhi will also participate in the initiative, which will take place in Las Vegas, NV (Oct. 24-25 at the World Market Center); Columbus, OH (Oct. 28 at Express Live) and Orlando, FL (Nov. 3 at Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts).
DiFranco says she’s excited to perform at the Orlando leg. “I’ve been traveling the country on my Vote Dammit tour and it’s been inspiring to see so many people energized about the idea of participating in the electoral process and breathing new life into our democracy,” she comments in a statement. “I hope that this event will help further galvanize young voters in the crucial state of Florida to participate in this and every election.”
Adds Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen: “As we have seen around the world, non-participation in the electoral process represents a serious threat to the notion of citizenship at home and abroad. Global Citizen is excited to get out and mobilize young people in key states to use their voice.”
