Weezer’s sophomore album, Pinkerton -- a fan favorite that was famously slammed by critics upon its release -- was certified platinum this past Friday, just eight days before its 20th birthday.

The band announced the news on social media earlier this week, writing: “Thanks to all 1 million of you in the US and A and the many more #acrossthesea worldwide who bought it and loved it.”

Pinkerton arrived September 24, 1996, as the follow-up to Weezer's smash 1994 debut, Weezer (Blue Album). On their Memories Tour in 2010 and 2011, the band performed both their first and second albums in full. Pinkerton was reissued on vinyl in 2016.
