The music streaming platform has plans to expand its reach.

As digital streaming platforms continue to compete for listeners' ears and attention, Spotify is expanding its reach beyond just music. Back in May, the platform revealed plans to build on its video program with the addition of 12 new original shows -- all of which are centered on music and pop culture, in one way or another.

Now the sports and music series Trading Playlists has arrived. Created in partnership with ACE Media, the content division of the NFL Players Association, Spotify debuted the series this week. Previously, the platform released a short-form documentary series on Metallica.

Trading Playlists sees two NFL players with varying music interests trade playlists for the day. CEO of ACE Media Scott Langerman says the series was a "unique opportunity" to show a side of NFL players that fans often aren't shown by way of music, a medium "that unites athletes across all sports."
