Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley & Little Big Town to Cover David Bowie's 'Heroes' for Stand Up to Cancer: Exclusive
The 2016 ACM Honors take over Nashville's Ryman Auditorium tonight (Aug. 30), and attendees will get a sneak peek at one of the special performances slated for this year's Stand Up to Cancer special, which airs Sept. 9 on over 60 broadcast channels, cable networks and streaming channels.
The performance will be taped tonight (Aug. 30) to air during Stand Up to Cancer on Sept. 9. The ACM Honors will air immediately after that broadcast at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Jason Aldean, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Alicia Keys, Miranda Lambert, Chris Young and The Band Perry are among the performers already announced for tonight's event. Bentley, Urban, Toby Keith and Blake Shelton are slated to perform a special tribute to Glen Campbell. Lady Antebellum will host the ACM Honors.
The collaboration with Urban, Bentley and Little Big Town is sure to be an emotional highlight in a night filled with A-list performances. All three acts have personal reasons for supporting the fight against cancer. Urban lost his father, Robert Urban, to the disease last year. "My Dad's love of country music and America set me on my life's journey and shaped so much of who I am today," he stated following the loss.
Little Big Town's Jimi Westbrook lost his sister, Joyce Marie Westbrook Morgan, last November to cancer. "When I was a kid she taught me to hold my head up and be confident in who I was. That has always stuck with me," Westbrook shared on Instagram. "She always claimed that she wanted a little brother so bad that she prayed me into this world … and I always believed her. As hard as we knew how, we prayed to keep her in this world with us but somehow it wasn't meant to be. My heart is so broken today and it will forever have a hole in it."
The Urban/Bentley/LBT performance will air during the 5th biennial Stand Up To Cancer televised fundraising special, airing live from Los Angeles. The networks involved (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, American Forces Network, Bravo, Showtime, National Geographic, and many more) are donating one hour of simultaneous commercial-free primetime for the telecast. This year will mark the first time there will be a Spanish language version of the Stand Up To Cancer telecast airing on Fusion, Galavision, and Univision Deportes. E! Entertainment and USA Network will air the Stand Up To Cancer telecast on Saturday, Sept. 10, and it will also be available on Hulu.
