Republic Records Celebrates MTV VMA Victories With Ariana Grande, Mac Miller, Desiigner & More
Ariana Grande and Mac Miller held court, Desiigner ripped it live, and the stars all aligned to celebrate with Republic Records at a star-studded Post-2016 MTV Video Music Awards bash at Vandal, New York City.
Taking part in the celebration were Nick Jonas, Tove Lo, America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum, Rita Ora, DNCE, Hailee Steinfeld, Jaden Smith, Troye Sivan, Fifth Harmony, Phantogram, Nick Cannon, Hailee Baldwin, Joan Smalls, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Ansel Elgort, Lance Bass, Jersey Shore alum J. Woww, Big Machine Records head Scott Borchetta, and more.
Celebrities toasted the evening with drinks provided by Ciroc and FIJI water. Guests noshed on sea bass, onion rings and other hor d’oeuvres and drank a special coconut water/vodka drink that was served in a separate area that also included a photo booth. An espresso coffee bar was even set up mid-way through the club, fully stocked for coffee drinkers looking for a pick me up.
Republic Group President Charlie Walk and Chief Executive Avery Lipman and Founder and CEO Monte Lipman greeted well wishers all night — including VMA winners for Best Collaboration and Song of the Summer, Fifth Harmony. The quintet looked stunning, and members Camilla Cabello, Lauren Jaragui, Normani Hamilton, Dinah Jane Hansen and Ally Brooke beelined straight to Walk for hugs, photos and mutual congratulations in a VIP area in the back of the club.
Grande arrived at the party with Miller at 1 a.m., and the couple took a seat in the VIP area, clearly enjoying each other’s company. Both had big smiles as they chatted up guests at the party, including Sivan who joined the pair for a while.
Shortly after, DJ Dimitry Mak--who spun a great mix of music all night long--announced a “special guest” was going to take the mic, and the club erupted as Brooklyn native Desiigner grabbed the microphone to turn the party up to 11 with an exhilarating set that included his hit song, “Panda.” The entire crowd — including Grande — craned their necks to get a peek at the rapper, who amped it up with a nod to fellow New Yorkers Fat Joe and Remy Ma, performing "All the Way Up," the summer hit featuring French Montana.
Elsewhere in the party, Cox – who is set to star as Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Fox — gladly stopped to take pictures with guests. The Orange is the New Black star was perfectly happy mingling with the crowd, and even sat at a table in the open area sipping a drink and dancing to the music.
The party — presented by GUESS — was the perfect launching pad for the co-creation of GUESS Music, a joint venture which was announced Aug. 26. Guests attending the party were treated to the premiere of Grande’s new song, “Side to Side,” featuring Nicki Minaj, which they premiered at the VMAs. The spin cycles Grande rode in the video and the performance were on display in front of club, and at one point Guess models decided to take them for a spin alongside a video screen, which streamed the song all night.
The first GUESS Music joint project took off on Sunday (Aug. 28), with a 24-hour premiere on GUESS.com of “Side to Side. In the video, Grande wears and introduces GUESS' new athletic line in the music video. Viewers will have the chance to shop looks inspired by Ariana's outfits in the video on GUESS' "get Ariana's look" merchandise page.
