Usher, Grimes & Metric to Play Global Citizen Concert in Canada

International social action platform Global Citizen is staging a charity concert at Montreal's Bell Centre on Sept. 17 in support of the Global Fund to End AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. American R&B singer Usher will join Canadians Half Moon Run, Metric, Grimes and Charlotte Cardin for the free, ticketed event, which will also be broadcast by Bell Fibe TV1 and iHeartRadio Canada livestream.

"This concert is a rallying call -- especially to young people around the world -- to take action against HIV, TB and malaria," said Mark Dybul, executive director of the Global Fund, in a press statement. "We've made tremendous progress and now this can be the generation to put an end to these epidemics for good."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Microsoft co-founder/philanthropist Bill Gates are among the special guests.

Those wishing to attend can start "earning their tickets" (10,000 will be made available to the public) by joining the Global Citizen movement at, where they can take action in support of the Global Fund, a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and people affected by the diseases.

Founded in 2002, The Global Fund raises and invests nearly $4 billion a year to support programs run by local experts in countries and communities most in need, according to stats on its site. The aim is to end these epidemics by 2030.

"After 2 years away from Canada, I'm looking forward to getting back in September to support this very important event," said Usher. "Justin Trudeau and Canada's leadership in education and global health is something for the rest of the world to pay attention to."

Global Citizen: A Concert to End AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will be co-hosted by Energie 94.3's Patrick Langlois, Africa Rising Foundation co-founder Kweku Mandela, media personality Maripier Morin, well as TV and radio personality George Stroumboulopoulos.

Johnson & Johnson is the major partner, along with associate partners The Coca-Cola Company, Ecobank, Nando's, and the United Nations Foundation. The event is being produced in partnership with Live Nation and evenko, and official media partner Bell Media.

It will be broadcast live to Bell Fibe TV subscribers on TV1, channel 1158, on Saturday, Sept. 17 beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Additionally, in advance of the launch of iHeartRadio Canada in the coming weeks, the event will be the first-ever livestream at The concert will be streamed on additional Bell Media Radio websites, also beginning at 7 p.m.
